When you let go of trying to get more of what you don’t really need, it frees up oceans of energy to make a difference with what you have.
Lynne Twist – The Soul of Money
Money is often used as a benchmark for success in our culture. Yet, it doesn’t always capture the bigger picture. All of us need money to live, but the power and weight that money is given to define success is out of balance.
Money is a first (root) chakra issue, and much of what we learn about money, and our relationship to it, is developed early in childhood. Our parents, teachers, advertisements, and society at large help us make sense of money, and these perceptions become energetically coded in our root chakra.
Like air, you can metaphorically breathe in too little or too much money. If you breathe in too little, energetically you will have inadequate money or hold on to money too tightly. Too much may result in excess spending or unwise investments. Constant focus and worry about money causes imbalances in your first chakra and in your life and business.
I personally think we have a national financial crises – but not in the way it is usually described. When it comes to money, you are at a disadvantage culturally. Money (and what it can buy) has become one of the most important symbols of power and success, eclipsing a more heart-centered approach to earning and spending.
Many people are disconnected from the true energy of money and use it as the sole measure of success. What’s your energetic connection to money? Do you use your money to empower yourself and others? How are your relationships impacted by your attitudes and use of money? Does money override your desire for meaningful and purposeful work? What kind of money energy are you using to connect to others, the planet, or even to Spirit?
In the Shambhala Dictionary of Taoism, yin and yang are considered, creative opposites; they are “two polar energies that, by their fluctuation and interaction, are the cause of the universe.” Both are important and necessary for balance in our lives, our organizations, and the world at large. If money were balanced energetically in yin and yang it might look something like this:
Yin | Yang |
Earning | Spending |
Saving or Conservative Investing | Aggressive Investing |
Charitable Contributions | Spending on Things You Want |
Intuitive Wisdom | Rational Analysis |
Cooperative Decisions | Competitive Decisions |
Reduce Spending in Your Business | Expand Your Business |
Do you mostly approach money from a place of yin or yang? To truly allow the energy of money to flow through, and to you, try spending some time in both yin and yang. Make your own yin/yang money list and determine where you have imbalances. Then write down how you would like to create more balance and take action.
Happy balancing!
With gratitude, Nanette
