“When the flames of the green dragon interact with the flames of the red dragon, they turn to rain that quenches the many fires set by the breath of the red dragon.” Nanette Giacoma, Open for Business: How to Achieve Professional Success Using the Power of Chakras.
Recently, Dragon Energy is very present for both my clients and myself. Dragons are showing up when working on connecting the energies of the third (solar plexus) chakra and the fifth (throat) chakra. In particular, when releasing blocks to authentic expression (fifth chakra) of personal power (third chakra).
The suppression of our authentic voice can create anger that balls up in the solar plexus. Anger is a powerful emotion that often belies the subconscious repression of our personal power. This frequently occurs when when we’ve been programed to stay quiet about inequities, or worse, emotional or physical trauma.
I’ve been working through some layers of old inequities in my family of origin. Funny – until recently, I was thinking, “Thank goodness I’m finally on the other side of that issue!” Only to get triggered by an event that boils my blood. What I’ve realized in the process is that I’ve not been authentically expressing my feelings to the people involved in those ongoing inequities. Why? Well … you know, I was trying to be the “bigger person”.
The reality is I’ve been working from my small self – the disempowered self. By continuing to buy into the myth of who I am and what my role is in my family, I’ve disempowered myself. In my gut burns immense unexpressed rage. Not surprisingly, I have digestion issues – a physical manifestation of my third chakra imbalance.
As I meditated on this shadow side of myself, I asked for a Guide to help me move to a more empowered place with it all. A Dragon Guide came and guided me in a vision where I became a dragon myself. As I flew with my Guide, I sprayed the air with red hot flames – expending frustration and anger, until I had exhausted myself. Landing near a quiet hot spring, my anger turned to grief, as I came to terms with the current landscape of my family of origin. Once again, I remind myself, I can only change my own behaviors, not others.
Now that I’ve awakened my Inner Dragon, I’m better able to see the inequities for what they are, and I’m better able to access my Empowered Self. I’m becoming more aware of where I need to change, and what I need to let go of. Even while my small self cringes at my boldness, I’m voicing my observations and feelings. While I may breathe out smoke as I speak, I’m also trying hard not to scorch others with my heat. I have a lifetime of anger to release, so as part of my ongoing meditation practice I continue to visualize my Dragon spewing fire into the sky until the rain comes to quench my inner fires.
Do you have an Inner Dragon waiting to be born? Write a story to hatch the dragon’s egg you’ve been incubating.
Once Upon a Dragon
I invite you to become your own storyteller and write a story about your Dragon – just waiting to be born. Through this exercise in creative storytelling, you will take on the form of a Powerful Dragon by allowing your creativity to flow from within. This is your story! You don’t have to write a long story – one to three pages is just great.
Now it’s time to quiet the inner voices of judgement that just erupted, so you can write your Dragon story. Get several empty pieces of paper and a pen or pencil. Take one sheet and fill it with any objections and other clutter in your head. It doesn’t have to make sense; just write and purge. When done, set it aside.
Now do a quick breathing meditation (5ish minutes). Afterward, take an empty sheet of paper and begin writing your story. There will be wisdom and understanding coming through your words. No need to force your story. Allow it to flow. If you feel stuck, try more breathing or perhaps a walk to clear your head. Keep writing until you feel like you are done. No matter how long or short your story is, it’s perfect. You may decide to add on to it as things develop.
Once you are done, reread your story. What insights do you have? Is there any symbolism that resonates with you? Where do you see you need to make changes? Where do you need to let go? Where do you need to let off steam? Where do you need to breathe fire?
By pairing your authentic, creative voice (fifth chakra) with the wisdom of your soul-self, you will release your Inner Dragon and embrace your innate personal power (third chakra).
Happy Birthing!
XOXOXO
Nanette
