Embrace Your Inner Dragon

“When the flames of the green dragon interact with the flames of the red dragon, they turn to rain that quenches the many fires set by the breath of the red dragon.” Nanette Giacoma, Open for Business: How to Achieve Professional Success Using the Power of Chakras.

Recently, Dragon Energy is very present for both my clients and myself. Dragons are showing up when working on connecting the energies of the third (solar plexus) chakra and the fifth (throat) chakra. In particular, when releasing blocks to authentic expression (fifth chakra) of personal power (third chakra).

The suppression of our authentic voice can create anger that balls up in the solar plexus. Anger is a powerful emotion that often belies the subconscious repression of our personal power. This frequently occurs when when we’ve been programed to stay quiet about inequities, or worse, emotional or physical trauma.

I’ve been working through some layers of old inequities in my family of origin. Funny – until recently, I was thinking, “Thank goodness I’m finally on the other side of that issue!” Only to get triggered by an event that boils my blood. What I’ve realized in the process is that I’ve not been authentically expressing my feelings to the people involved in those ongoing inequities. Why? Well … you know, I was trying to be the “bigger person”.

The reality is I’ve been working from my small self – the disempowered self. By continuing to buy into the myth of who I am and what my role is in my family, I’ve disempowered myself. In my gut burns immense unexpressed rage. Not surprisingly, I have digestion issues – a physical manifestation of my third chakra imbalance.

As I meditated on this shadow side of myself, I asked for a Guide to help me move to a more empowered place with it all. A Dragon Guide came and guided me in a vision where I became a dragon myself. As I flew with my Guide, I sprayed the air with red hot flames – expending frustration and anger, until I had exhausted myself.  Landing near a quiet hot spring, my anger turned to grief, as I came to terms with the current landscape of my family of origin. Once again, I remind myself, I can only change my own behaviors, not others.

Now that I’ve awakened my Inner Dragon, I’m better able to see the inequities for what they are, and I’m better able to access my Empowered Self. I’m becoming more aware of where I need to change, and what I need to let go of. Even while my small self cringes at my boldness, I’m voicing my observations and feelings. While I may breathe out smoke as I speak, I’m also trying hard not to scorch others with my heat. I have a lifetime of anger to release, so as part of my ongoing meditation practice I continue to visualize my Dragon spewing fire into the sky until the rain comes to quench my inner fires.

Do you have an Inner Dragon waiting to be born? Write a story to hatch the dragon’s egg you’ve been incubating.

Once Upon a Dragon

I invite you to become your own storyteller and write a story about your Dragon – just waiting to be born. Through this exercise in creative storytelling, you will take on the form of a Powerful Dragon by allowing your creativity to flow from within. This is your story! You don’t have to write a long story – one to three pages is just great.

Now it’s time to quiet the inner voices of judgement that just erupted, so you can write your Dragon story. Get several empty pieces of paper and a pen or pencil. Take one sheet and fill it with any objections and other clutter in your head. It doesn’t have to make sense; just write and purge. When done, set it aside.

Now do a quick breathing meditation (5ish minutes). Afterward, take an empty sheet of paper and begin writing your story. There will be wisdom and understanding coming through your words. No need to force your story. Allow it to flow. If you feel stuck, try more breathing or perhaps a walk to clear your head. Keep writing until you feel like you are done. No matter how long or short your story is, it’s perfect. You may decide to add on to it as things develop.

Once you are done, reread your story. What insights do you have? Is there any symbolism that resonates with you? Where do you see you need to make changes? Where do you need to let go? Where do you need to let off steam? Where do you need to breathe fire?

By pairing your authentic, creative voice (fifth chakra) with the wisdom of your soul-self, you will release  your Inner Dragon and embrace your innate personal power (third chakra).

Happy Birthing!

XOXOXO

Nanette

  1. Thank you! I liked the dragon exercise—here is my story!

My hands go to my solar plexus and I cradle the dragon that resides there.

”Let me out,” he says.
”The door is open, Dragon. Fly out.”
”I don’t have the key,” replies the Dragon.
”The door is open. Fly out.”
”You say that, but I need a key. I cannot fly out until I possess the key. It matters not that the door is open, locked or unlocked.”
”Oh. Pardon me. I guess I am not surprised. I never truly understand anything here. Well, teach me Dragon. Where is this key? It is my intention to get you whatever you need. I want you to soar. I want you to be free.”
”You don’t know about the key? You were told about it. Don’t you remember the dream? Metaphysical key?”
”Yes. I do remember that dream. A lovely woman was brought to me. She embraced me and I pretended to remember her. We took a seat in the crowded room, and I had us find another spot. I saw a schoolmate who passed on in the room. Her name was Karen Barnett, but we called her Kay, since my name is Karen and I was there first. I wish we hadn’t done that. I wish we hadn’t hijacked her name. Anyway, the beautiful woman said to me, ‘Metaphysical Key’ and I replied ‘Bumblebee.’
The dragon is quiet.
”I am sorry that I don’t know what that means. I’ve thought about it and looked for some information. I think I helped craft the ankh, or at least I have an echo of that memory, I know that the ankh is a key. But I have a bad case of amnesia. I don’t know how to give you the ankh, or if it is what you need.”
The dragon grumbles.
”Maybe, I am to name you. Like Bastian in The Neverending Story. Would that help you? Could your name be the key that frees you?”
The dragon smiles.
”Ok, I will name you.” My mind whirls.
”Sebastian. I looked it up. It means venerable.”
The dragon is silent.
I am silent.
”Sebastian Oadir. I name you Sebastian Oadir. Now are you free?”
Sebastian Oadir takes in a deep breath. He closes his eyes, and raises himself up upon his mighty legs. He flaps his wings once. Twice. A third time.
His maw opens and he expels a great roar, and smoke seeps from his nostrils. “It is done,” he intones. Sebastian Oadir lets out a scathing burst of fire that he siphons from the liver. He pulls and pulls out the fire and releases it out into the waiting world.
I yell, “Wait! That will hurt the people! I’ve promised to hold God’s people in my heart!”
Sebastian smiles. “Our fire is heart-fire, Little Girl. We heal the masses with our flame.”
I ponder this. I question, “But I thought the liver holds anger, anxiety and resentment. There is already too much of that in the world.”
”Little Girl. We are giving the people back their power. We are giving the people back their emotion. We have held it, you and I, for many a year, beyond your echoes of memory. It is time to give it back. It is time to transcend and fill our destiny. We have more room now. With what will you fill it?”
” I will fill it with Love. I fill it with the I Am. I choose Love. I choose kindness. I choose gratitude. I choose hope. I choose light. I choose generosity. I choose abundance. I choose faith. I choose perfect health. I choose harmony.”
”Then we are free. And like the Bumblebee we will travel the astral planes unimpeded. There will be no more doors for us, Heart Warrior. We are our own key. The keys of the cosmos reside in the one who chooses to choose the One who made her.”
”For the benefit of the all,” I whisper. Almost remembering something.
”Yes,” echoes Sebastian Oadir. “For the benefit of the all. So mote it be, and so it is.”
Let it be known that the Heart Warrior has unleashed her dragon and given him a name. May all who try to impede their progress be warned, mercy is not theirs to give, though forgiveness they offer up readily. ‘The time is here for the harvesting. The gathering stores into barns.’
It is done. So mote it be, and so it is.
Alikaymaleytwa and Sebastian Oadir
