Dreams have a non-linear way of bringing me insight into my life. Last week was a particularly heavy dream week, which reminds me that I need to be paying more attention to my Spirit Guides. Most of my dreams have felt frantic, and some were downright disturbing.
One in particular caught my attention. I’m driving in “my” car, which is an older model, rusty white sedan that obviously needs some repairs. I’m driving fast through the woods, looking for a road. Then without warning, my brakes give out, and I’m careening out of control. I swerve in and out of the trees, barely avoiding a collusion. I do this for a while, until I realize I can use my handbrake to slow myself down.
So what are my Guides trying to tell me in this dream? Our unconscious (dreaming) mind speaks to us in signs and symbols in our sleeping dreams and imagination. Energetically, dreaming is correlated with the sixth (third-eye) chakra, which helps us to be open-minded, and have clear intuition, strong vision, and good dream recall. Through our dreaming mind, we are able to step outside of our habitual thinking and see ourselves, our lives, and our businesses with less influence from our conscious (rational) thinking and our sub-conscious (automatic) thinking.
There are three ways to categorize dreams that can be helpful when evaluating the type of dream we’re having. First, self-limiting dreams reinforce our belief or myth that we are somehow flawed. New myth dreams help us create a new and improved story about ourselves. And an integration dream may help us integrate an old self-limiting myth with a new myth.
My dream falls into the category of an integration dream. I start out with the self-limiting myth that my car is in disrepair, and that I have no control of it. When I decipher the symbolic message, I recognize that the car is “me driving in the woods without a clear road.” It’s “me” trying to figure out how I’m going to reach my my business goals because I’m currently feeling overwhelmed.
I’m creating new products and services, and I’ve just joined a new business network (BNI). Now I’m having to redefine what to focus on, what to hang on to, and what to let go of. I’ve definitely been “driving too fast” trying to keep up with everything. And yes, my “brakes” are about to give out – in other words I’m exhausted!
This dream reminds me, that I can create a new myth. I do have control “the hand brake” and all I have to do is use it to slow down. When I slow down, I’m no longer trapped in my conscious (rational) mind or my sub-conscious (automatic) mind. I can go “off-road” to gain a new perspective.
I pause, I breathe, I center, and I tap into my intuition using my dream to listen to my Guides. They will show me the “road” to take to make my goals a reality.
I’ve found over and over that examining my dreams and working through the messages contained within them, benefits me in all areas of my life and business.
