To work magic I need to believe in my basic ability to do things and cause things happen. That belief is generated and sustained by my daily actions. Starhawk
Whenever anyone asks me how I’m doing these days, my response is, I’m hanging in there!
In February, my life was turned on its head due to health issues with my parents and brother. Since then, I’ve been consumed with all the responsibilities of helping them get the support they need. I’ve had to use organizational and planning skills heavily, as I did years ago in my corporate job. And I’ve begun to wonder where “I” have gone – the “me” that I knew and loved six months ago. At the same time, I am incredibly grateful that I have these skills to help my family.
Energetically, I’ve been living out of my third (solar plexus) chakra. The energetic goals of the solar plexus chakra are vitality, strength of will, personal power, sense of purpose, and effectiveness. This is the place where we adult up. And I have definitely been doing that!
Not surprisingly, I’ve been craving foods associated with the third charka – complex carbohydrates like beans, whole grains, and seeds. And sometimes not so complex like pastries – ummm…because, you know, stress. This is unusual for me. I’m typically not drawn to eating carbohydrates, but I’m not about to doubt my energetic needs right now.
I’m also calling on my inner Spiritual-Warrior Goddess, Athena. The Warrior is a solar plexus chakra archetype. Whenever you work with a vital purpose, use strategy, or find practical solutions to reach your personal or professional goals, you engage your inner Athena. I call upon her when I need some extra help adulting up, reaching my goals, acting powerfully, or knocking out a to-do list. And I’ve had some mighty long to-do lists lately!
I know I can’t continue to deplete my solar plexus chakra energy without health repercussions, and I’m making a conscious effort to move toward balancing my energy by using some of the “Ways to Balance Your Third Chakra” from my book Open for Business, How to Achieve Professional Success Using the Power of Chakras. Here are the top ten balancing tools I’m currently using.
- Do breathing exercises
- Practice yoga
- Work on strengthening your core
- Spend 10-20 minutes in the sun (fire is the solar plexus element)
- Eat third chakra foods
- Cross your arms in front of your stomach when interacting with negativity
- Commit to a mindfulness meditation practice
- Express your anger in an authentic but not harmful way
- Practice saying “no”
- Mentally or energetically cut cords where needed
While I’m still hanging in there, I’m finding that working toward balancing my solar plexus chakra is helping me redefine my personal boundaries and carve out some time for myself, which includes time with friends and riding my horse Star.
