We have to put aside our typical social association with word Fool to fully appreciate the essence of this archetype. In medieval courts, The Fool was someone who was not expected to follow the same rules as others. He could observe and then poke fun based on his observations, even with the King or Queen. This makes the Fool unpredictable and full of surprises. He reminds us to stay in the unlimited potential and spontaneity inherent in every moment.
The Fool indicates New Beginnings, Leaps of Faith, New Inner Landscapes, and New Perspectives or Paradigms. He may be encouraging you to follow your dreams and trust yourself, even though you may be feeling lost or confused. The Fool encourages you to move ahead with childlike curiosity and awe…what the Buddhist call beginners mind. The Fool is the expression of the originality and spontaneity of your Inner Wild Child. And as you move into your unique sense of self you will access your intuition and wisdom. When fully embracing the light aspects of the Fool you say “yes” to risks, make mistakes, learn from them and most importantly laugh at yourself.
